Fruit of the Jungle

All spring I have been looking out the window in front of me into the back yard...aka 'The Jungle'...and seeing a few berries that I suspected the birds would get.  Then, I noticed that the birds were having trouble finding something sturdy enough to land on....time to investigate.

The jungle gets absolutely no tending short of cutting it back before it starts to nibble at the back of the house...sad, but true.
The upside of this wanton neglect is that you sometimes find treasures in the jungle..like volunteer black raspberry plants (they have a special name, don't they?) growing and producing!  I could only see a few berries.  Evidently they like it a bit shady, because when I started moving leaves....oh, yeah!  Score.  I left lots of red ones for another day.

Enough for me and the wild creatures...at least today.

Now, is there anything I can do with about a cup of yummy, well, you know, besides sit here and eat them up???

ps...this is my 100th post on this blog.  Thanks for joining me on this journey!

Tanna, you, my friend, are one of the things I like most about blogging...reading yours and sharing mine and getting to know each other.

Why YES I do! But I really don't want to get purple stains on mine!! Maybe I can use Stevie's!! LOL There are handfuls here and there, but not the mother lode yet. I'll definitely let ya know!

But the stains will make it look authentic!....or we could always put the tacky plastic bag inside to keep it nice!

Oooh those look yummy, we used to pick them in England and make blackberry crumble....mmmmm. Congrats on 100 posts and I'm glad I met you too xx

Well, mine definitely were NOT thornless...but I also didn't have to plant them or tend to them so that evens things out for me.

You are a blog bonus for sure!

I didn't think I had enough for baking with so I just got ice cream to go with and it was pretty yummy!

You, too, are a blog bonus...one that is 1/2 way around the world!

Happy 100!!!!!

What a delight it must have been to greet your jungle volunteers. Greet and eat. Now, I wonder how our blackberries are coming along. Must take a walk and go visit them.

Greet and Eat! Love that! Hope your blackberries are full and sweet!

We used to have raspberry bushes that were doing really well - then G fertilized them. Evidently, you shouldn't. But stragglers survived for years, till our jungle overtook them, I guess. I remember wandering around England, eating blackberries off the hedges as we walked - wonderful! You may get lost there, but you won't starve! You put them on ice cream. If I weren't feeling so portly, I'd go out and buy some and do it myself. surprise berries in your own yard - lovely!

I would imagine that these berry bushes aren't in it for the long haul...maybe just this season. It is a jungle out there!
When I was in Ireland, I didn't see berries in the hedges, but they did have huge beautiful hedge rows of fuchsia! Amazing.

I am getting nervous about coming out there. Do you and Rachel have any truly chubby friends? You? Portly? I think not! Me? Chubby? You betcha! Not as chubby as before, but still pleasantly plump!
