No, now just relax. I know how to use a tape measure,
but it is step one.
There are my two marks. Now I need to make a straight line
so my little husband can cut.
Here is the tool. It has a lip on the leg that is pointing up.
This is to lock it onto the 2x securely...not as you
see it in this photo.
See the lip? If I hook it over the 2x, the line will not be straight.
That is the problem. Just look at all the ways this tool
can be used incorrectly...
Still not gonna get those two marks hooked together.
Still not right...so many ways to turn this thing....
Yes! It is lined up with the marks and I can make a straight line.
Ta-da!
So, there you have it. The combination square used correctly.
And of course, my little husband just lays it down right
without even thinking every time!
I'm learning from a pro.
Good news is I got much better. Hardly ever have to flip it about by the end of the day.

Ah. News flash...that thing is HEAVY. I am holding on
and praying it doesn't fall down! Oh, and it goes on the other end
of the house with the other two walls, but we had more room on this end.
We had two of our neighbors and another friend visit today. Crissy and William even brought homemade popsicles with the icy cold drinks! Yummy again! I was a little late for Zumba, but it is always worth the effort.

Have you ever tried holding one of those up to a young child and telling them that it's a square? They're not easily convinced. But the older ones will crinkle their noses and offer that "it's half of a square."
I chuckled my way through your toolturial.
I'll get that email out to you, but right now my battery is dying...
We never got to that square problem in my class, but I love how they take the rules you give them and apply them - or try to.
Once a little girl came up to me and said your better tell me how to spell "hope" because I wrote all the sounds I hear and it still spells "hop"! She was not happy....ah, yes, time for the silent e lesson.
Oh, phooy. I am so far behind. I added novel reading to the work I'm investing in getting back in the saddle. And there's Murphy and the wedding - and I keep wanting to pick up the computer - but the kids keep showing up. But I think of you ALWAYS. And I want to build with you. I'm here. really. really. really. I wonder how many silent e lessons our Father keeps trying to teach us? And how many how-to-use-a-square ones. But I know I keep turning the thing over and over in my life-hands, still puzzled. So much I don't get. So much I can't even see. The river is only a metaphor for me for now.
But seeing you holding that framing - it's REAL. Building a house - you can see it and set up walls, and you can be SURE THAT THEY"RE FINISHED. I yearn for that. For finishing something. For real. Knowing you can mark it off the list as "job done."
Kristen, you see things and say/write things the rest of us can only enjoy after you put them into words for us...here's a couple of examples from TTrueson:
